Purpose of Compression Stockings
2 min readThe purpose of compression stockings has been to help individuals with constricted blood flow and hemroids. These compression stockings work by adding pressure to the veins around the legs, which force the hemroids to shrink back and flatten the varicose vein. There are many advantages and disadvantages of compression stockings.
There are many advantages to compression stockings. They offer a quick remedy for varicose veins, which is often immediate. In addition, they are comfortable and do not cause any irritation. They can also be very effective at easing pain in the leg that is caused by sciatica or lower back problems. However, there are some disadvantages to compression stockings, and one of them is that they can be quite uncomfortable.
The primary disadvantage of compression stockings is that they are not breathable. Since they are designed to add pressure to veins, they can cause your legs to become very warm, which may cause discomfort or even a feeling of overheating. Many people find that once the pressure on the veins of the legs is taken off, they do not want to wear the stockings again, since they can cause soreness.
Another disadvantage of compression stockings is that they do not allow for the free circulation of blood to the extremities, which can lead to low energy and weak circulation. The result of this is that you may end up feeling fatigued after wearing the compression stockings for a period of time. While it may feel like your legs are not getting the circulation they need, this is not really the case, since the blood is being forced through the socks and only going to where it is intended to go anyway.
Also, while compression stockings have helped those who suffer from venous insufficiency (the main cause of varicose veins) by allowing the free flow of blood, they may not be the best choice for those who suffer from edema. Edema occurs when there is an excess amount of fluid built up in the body. This can occur because of many things including prolonged sitting or standing and can cause the legs to swell. Compression stockings can worsen the situation, since they will force the fluids to travel through the socks instead of the legs. Those who suffer from edema are usually told to wear compression socks for a period of time, and they should see an improvement over time.
For the most part, the purpose of compression stockings is simply to keep your skin warm. You should never wear them as they are for medical purposes. They have not been shown to provide any sort of therapeutic benefit other than the warmth they provide. Those who wear them for the purpose of fashion may find that they wear them too often, which can cause irritation to the skin. If you have health problems, it is best to consult your doctor before you wear them.
