Randall remembers all the nuts in 22 states at risk of serious botulism
1 min readRandall’s food remembers all the nuts in 22 states on the potential risk of clostridium botulinum contamination, which can cause serious diseases called botulism. The risk is caused by ‘manufacturing deviations’ which might result in processing peanuts too low temperatures.
Botulism is a serious disease, potentially deadly resulting from consuming poisons produced by clostridium botulinum bacteria. Fortunately, the disease is rare. According to the CDC, botulism can occur when spores produced by these bacteria can grow and produce toxins.
The type of environment needed for spores is growing – the low acid, sugar, salt, and anaerobic in nature – is the same that can be found when food is fermented or spoiled incorrectly. Clostridium Botulinum Toxins attacks the nerves of the body, leading to things like muscle paralysis. Need emergency medical needed because botulism can cause death.
Fortunately, Randall said that it had not received reports of diseases related to this withdrawal. The company remembers all Randall brand beans sold in almost two dozen countries, including places such as New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Texas, and others. A complete list of peanuts drawn, including UPC and ‘best with’, can be found on the FDA website here.
If you buy one of the Randall brand beans that are listed in the notification remember, the company says you have to return it to a place purchased for a refund. Remember the impact of around 1.6 million cases of peanuts distributed from March 1, 2019, until May 15, 2021.
